'There and then I took it badly, but looking back it was a very important experience both on a cultural and technical level.'

His sporting hero is former Brazilian Formula One racer Ayrton SENNA, who died tragically in 1994, and swimmer Gustavo BORGES (BRA). 'What I like in swimming, like in real life, is realising goals and dreams.'

He almost gave up swimming when he was unable to compete from April to May 2020 when his sponsorship deal was terminated due to Covid-19. 'I could see and feel people's support for me so I wanted to return the favour.'
