That's my biggest goal, to tick that box off for him.'

In 2021, she spoke about representing her home state of Utah, not known for successful swimmers, at the Olympic Games. 'I would say it's really special. It kind of gives me a lot of honour to represent the state.'

She is from Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA, and attended the same schools as 2020 OG swimming team-mate Katie LEDECKY (USA). 'It's really incredible because she's been such a big role model in my life.'

Before the 100m backstroke final at the 2016 OG in Rio, she and coach Byron MACDONALD (CAN) made a bet that if she could top MACDONALD's sixth place at the 1972 OG, he would buy her tickets to see hip-hop star Drake.

At age six, her parents took her to swimming lessons to improve her health. A year later, coach WU Guozhong noticed her talent for the sport and encouraged her to start training.
