They claimed bronze in a national record time of 7:47.49.
Qualified 5th from heats. The ROC women's 4x200m freestyle relay team qualified for Tokyo via the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju. Previously, the Russian Federation competed in the event at four editions of the Olympic Games, making the final on one occasion.

On their debut appearance at Beijing in 2008, they made the final and finished sixth.
