After switching from kayak, Lisa JAHN finished last at the GER qualifiers in 2016: 'I was just embarrassed. I thought how stupid I had to be to give up something [kayak] that I had perfected for 12 years, to do something new at age 22.' Sophie KOCH is a police athlete.
Gold at 2021 Barnaul WCup event, 10th at Szeged. Katherin NUEVO SEGURA was named Rookie Athlete of the Year 2019. She got into the sport while fishing with her father: 'I steered the boat enthusiastically and enjoyed it. A coach later spotted me and encouraged me to start training'.

Liudmyla LUZAN switched to canoe after training in artistic gymnastics for 10 years. Anastasiia CHETVERIKOVA also plays basketball and enjoys cycling.
Won 2019 WCh. SUN Mengya has also competed in canoe marathon at junior international level. XU Shixiao retired from canoe sprint after being unsatisfied with her performances in 2013, but made a comeback in 2017.

Laurence VINCENT-LAPOINTE has the ambition to become the first female athlete to win gold in the C2 500m at the Olympic Games. Katie VINCENT says: 'My high school careers test said I should be a professional athlete. It was definitely right.'

Virag BALLA and Kincso TAKACS were named Hungarian Female Canoeists of the Year by the Hungarian Canoe Federation in 2019. BALLA's younger brother Levente won silver in men's C2 event at 2018 WCh, while TAKACS' husband Adam DEVECSERI won bronze in canoe marathon at 2009 European Ch.
