Jaime ROBERTS was inspired by the commentary on the canoe sprint at London 2012: 'I was driving a truck on a mine site up in Pilbara, it was such an exciting few minutes. From that moment onwards I decided to give kayaking a crack and see if I could make it to the Olympic Games.'

She returned to the boat three weeks later. Teammate Lisa CARRINGTON is the first female athlete representing NZL to have won two medals at a single OG, with gold and bronze in 2016.
